See reference and recommended materials below:
In this fascinating workshop, Carne will walk you through how to paint a portrait piece that uses loose abstract techniques to build layers and create a dynamic finished result.
You will look at many techniques including layer effects using inks and boiling water, tea, alcohol and gold leaf, lifting, glass effects, floral embellishment and maybe even a little embroidery!

Recommended materials
• PAPER: Watercolour paper (Carne uses the bockingford cold pressed 535 GSM and stretches it first normally)
• PAINTS: Acrylic paints - white, ochre and blue - Carne will be using golden fluid acrylics , Non permanent calligraphy ink, waterman, pelican or Herbin, Gold leaf or imitation gold leaf and gold size
• BRUSHES: Fountain or Dip Pen • OTHER: Embroidery thread - either anchor stranded cotton or coats similar, needle, pencil, eraser, kettle and tea!!
NOTE: Although Golden fluid acrylics are listed for the workshop, Carne didn't reach the stage where he normally adda opaque layers of colour. To clarify he uses fluid acrylics in 2 ways: both using a dip pen to create linear marks similar to the fountain pen lines within the piece and also with a brush adding translucent and opaque geometric shapes.
