Join professional artist Robert Dutton with another exciting ‘go with the flow' 2-3hr workshop as he teaches you how to use acrylic inks and colourful expressive pastel techniques to create a colourful and expressive Lakeland scene. Filmed live from England on 9th February 2021.

In this workshop, Robert will explain his choice of materials in greater depth and their importance to you as an artist, explain why paper surfaces are important and how each can offer something new and unique to you (especially with expressive techniques) and demonstrate exciting ways of combining unique painting methods of brush work, colour application and pastel painted layers to express your ideas in a whole new creative direction.

By taking full advantage of the quick drying properties of colourful inks and the painterly mark making approach with soft pastels, learn how to create special effects with both media in combination you will fill your painting with bright magical light by contrasting light and dark and drawn and painted marks in the same painting.

Media Acrylic ink and soft pastel

Recommended materials list:

Fixative (Unison Colour brand highly recommended)

Soft and hard pastels. Unison Colour soft pastels and Royal Talens Rembrandt pastels in combination to give both soft and a more ‘harder’ mark when pastel painting.

Robert will be using a selected range of Unison Colours from his ‘Moorland Set’ and the ‘Midnight Set’ of 8 rich darks - another set of Unison colour soft pastels Robert collaborated with to create which also has become really popular with pastel artists also.

Colours highly recommended you will need (or similar) Carbon Black 1, Carbon Black 2, Dark 23, Dark 21, Dark 22 and Dark 24 Essential.WHITE, A3, A31, A34, A35, OB11, OB10, OB4, Y12, GRN24, GRN21, GRN13, GRN14, GRN17, GRN18, LT2, OR2, DK24, NE4, NE13, NE7, BE6, BE23, LT11Rembrandt pastels - your favourites but WHITE TR100.5 AND VIOLET TR536.3 (OR SIMILAR) ARE ESSENTIAL Acrylic inks - any brand. Highly recommended Liquitex/ Royal Talens Amsterdam inks or Daler-Rowney acrylic inks in the following colours:

Indigo,

Brilliant Green,

Viridian Green

Ultramarine Blue

Lemon Yellow

Transparent Burnt Sienna

Cobalt Blue

Cerulean Blue

Crimson

White acrylic ink ESSENTIAL - any brand

Watercolour paper - 300gsm (140lb) ‘not' surface 100% cotton rag. Robert will be using Canson Heritage ‘not’ 300gsm (140lb), size recommended 20 x 22 inches 51 x 56cm or a size you wish to work with.

Kitchen roll

Spray diffuser

Hair dryer

Water and water pots and mixing wells deep enough for fluid ink washes over large areas

Soft 6B Graphite stick or similar

Thin A4 (or similar) photocopy paper for masking techniques

Upright easel, drawing board and strong clips (such as bulldog clips) tos ecure your paper to the board
