With your host John
Join award winning artist Robert Dutton for this 1 hour Special Art webinar, painting glowing winter trees and snowy fields in charcoal and soft pastel. Broadcast live from England on 18 November 2021.
**See example stages below**
Winter light is magical! The landscape seems to ‘sharpen up’ and reveal its structure. It's not only the snow underfoot that’s crisp - shapes and lines are too and this special class will give you the perfect opportunity to put some drawing into your pastel painting - with charcoal!
A shorter prelude to Robert's longer, 2-3 hour workshop webinar, you'll use free and expressive gestural stokes of line and tone created with charcoal sticks, then see how the placement of shapes and form loosens you up and underpins the glowing atmospheric scene you’ll create with layers of soft pastel!
Our aim in this short session will be to teach you the confidence of exploring soft pastel with another favourite artist media (charcoal) in a very different way on a support usually associated with watercolour to create an exciting expressive pastel painting - techniques which will be explored in greater depth in the following long workshop.
